The 100ks might be in jeopardy too with some meaningful college football coming up over the next two weekends. SCHEDULE. Great views of the TVs in the tournament areas. We'll be watching college football and getting a piece of that Prize Pool in the Golden Moon. We'll see the rest of the folks that like winning money tomorrow :). |

BEST BET JACKSONVILLE: Tony Tran won 341k for first in the 5k Best Bet WPT Bounty Scramble. He rallied from two big blinds on Day 2 after getting almost felted by Jessica Dawley. Ran it up a little bit to bag in the bottom three of chips of 17. He entered the 6 person final table fifth in chips but still won the Champions Cup. Tran was born in Port Arthur, TX but is a Philadelphia (PA) native now. The final table included Jake Schwartz, Kelly Minkin, and Ray Qartomy. Harrison Gimbel finished 10th for 27k. Two of Biloix's All Stars made the money: Tim Burt 17th for just under 20k and Trace Henderson (pictured) 31st for just under 10k. What a run for Tim feels like we put his name on every update. |
MONEYMAKER 30 FOR 30
PODCAST: We submitted a suggestion for this to be an actual video episode. Hands down the Moneymaker year on ESPN was the best episodic reality show we've ever seen and short of the Apprentice has to have the biggest impact culturally with the Poker Boom that followed. This is just a podcast but should be interesting for us poker junkies. Listen here. Confession, we haven't had a chance to take it in yet but think we are going to give this a listen on the way up to Pearl River. Should be great. |
-ANNOUNCEMENT: DUE TO EFFFECTS OF HURRICANE MICHAEL EBRO GREYHOUND PARK POKER ROOM'S EMERALD COAST POKER CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED. OUR THOUGHTS GO OUT TO EVERYBODY WHO WAS IN THE PATH OF THE STORM. |
VICTORY CIGAR FOR
WIDEMAN'S NEAR MISS: Let's not kid ourselves Joey Wideman of New Orleans (originally, Calera, AL) didn't exactly miss. He went to Battle Creek Michigan for the Mid States Poker Tour main Event and left with a second place finish and 135k. Great job Cigar Joey! Matthew Stammen finished first for 218k (what a pay jump), Maurice Hawkins fourth for 75k, Nick Pupillo 11th for 17k, and Blake Whittington 35th for 5k. 1271 Entrants made up a prize pool of 1.2 million (smashing a 300k guarantee). |
POKER OPEN FREE ROOMS: We are about two weeks away from the Poker Open and wanted to give ya'll a heads up to look for a mailer sent out by Pearl River Resorts. In it they are giving away three free nights during the week for anybody coming to the tournament. If you've played there in the past 13 months and have a valid address you should have received one. If you are planning to go for the first time and want to stay for the entire event or are coming for part of it but rooming with another poker player DM us and we might we able to help with rooms. They are very inexpensve to start. As always Pearl River's Neal Atkinson, TD Paul Dutsch, and Poker Room Manager Denise Dahl are pulling out all the stops for the players. Speaking of Paul we updated out interview with him discusing the event and his band Truck Patch Revival. |
POKER LINKAGE: -POKER-BITCOIN DEEPER CONNECTION THAN WE THOUGHT: For a while in 2017, every poker player was a Bitcoin-Crypto expert (yeah we kind of sucked... huh?). The ease of traveling and moving money, the gambly feel to it, and the early adopter nature of poker players seems like a perfect marriage. Turns out there was even more to that pairing then first thought. A very deep and interesting article on Breaker Mag about the Hidden History of Poker and Crypto. Got a minute? this is a great read. -MIDTERM ELECTIONS A BATTLE FOR ONLINE POKER: Well online poker's future in Nevada looks less promising right now. Poker powers in Florida also seem to be conspiring against the online game. American Spectator has the details. SPORTS BETTING UP IN JERSEY, POKER RAKE DOWN: It appears the new sports betting boom might have an impact on online poker players. The gamblers that feed the game are exploring other outlets. Cards Chat has the story. POKER BITES: -Rio to host World Series of... Baseball? Rumors abound the MLB is going to take over the Rio and build a baseball park there. Cardplayer has the details. -You have some friends you like to share poker thoughts with? Who doesn't. T.I. revealed recently that he and the G.O.A.T. of G.O.A.T.s Michael Jordan share hands with one another. Hey, M.J. hey T.I. we got room for a couple of bounties at Poker Gras in November: Hip Hop Wired -An op ed in The LA Times suggests we should teach all girls to play poker. "I think all girls should be taught to play poker — not because they need to enter high-cash tournaments, but because the game is a way to practice taking risks, size up your own strengths, manage money (chips) and know when to call out others on their bluffs." -Poker in Nashville? Ric Flair, Chris Moorman, and Greg Raymer all slated to play the charity event. Chad Holloway at PokerNews has the details. |
HAND OF THE WEEK: Is it a bluff? Is he value owning himself? Berkey makes the correct read but the wrong play. Kenny makes the wrong read but the right play. The announcers well... watch the video. A weird hand on many "levels." |

HAND OF THE WEEK: It's Jaime Gold. A blast from the past. A little truth, a little lie, a little trickery. In the age of hoodied, head phoned, robots Jaime Gold glitters a little more now then he did then. We didn't appreciate him as much as we should have. |

GCP UPDATES: What a few months of action we got lined up for us... Tournament poker players don't have to go far to experience great fields, good structures and novel tournaments. Included in those tournaments: Big Blind Ante structures; 128 person heads up event; Main Events from $440 to $2600; Guarantees ranging from 50k all the way up to $600k guarantee; and loads more. TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE Also big thanks to Robert Henderson letting us know our Twitter feed is down. We got that fixed. If there is anybody you think should be profiled on our twitter list that isn't.. shoot us an email. NOVEMBER: We will have our big announcement very soon--hopefully this week. November Nine is a term poker players are very familiar with so go ahead and find that on your calendar. Now back up a day and circle the 8th through the 11th. We'll have somewhere you will want to be. We promise. |
PEARL RIVER
POKER OPEN: We'll have plenty more about Pearl River's event starting October 25 coming soon. Just an early heads up that once again we are proud to promote this event. Going to be a fun one especially with an awesome new sports book next door. Again multiple seats added to the satelites and two $100k guarantees. Hard to beat the comps here as Paul Dutsch and Neal Atkinson as always are going to bat for tournament poker players. We know we'll be playing some golf too at the awesome twin Dancing Rabbit courses. |
VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Cory Pansano, a former Harrahs NOLA reg, is doing a video blog. This one features a chat with an institution in the New Orleans poker games and a driveby of Drew Brees. Cory is a NOLA transplant grinding the cash games in Vegas now. We believe this blog is an attempt to win a PokerStars contest of some sort? Cory previously won the right to be on poker show in Europe so we wish him well with this endeavor too. Older blogs feature a cameo from Daniel Negreanu and some interesting hand analysis. You'll be able to find him and his Vlog linked on the right. |
BURT FIRST AT BEAU: For a while there it looked like this installment of the Beau's fall tournament was Jerry's World as Jerry Giroir took first in the Re-entry and then almost topped the Monster Stack. But apparently, Tim Burt had other plans as he put his stamp on this week with a little bit of one upmanship. Burt took just a hair less than Giroir in the re-entry chop and followed that up with the first place title in the main event. This one brought 375 entrants for a $447k prize pool with first credited for 103k. Congrats Tim always happy for you. The final table featured a couple other Friends of GCP in second place finisher Hiep Doan of Marrero (59k), Don Dove of NOLA (6th 18k), Nick Langsford of Kenner, LA (7th 14k), and our pal Frank Alpandinar of Baton Rouge (9th 6.5k). Ray Curran continued his hot form with a 10th place finish just under 5k. Also cashing out at that amount Trace Henderson (12th), Randy Gordon (16th), and Rebecca Campbell (17th). Shout out to Gabe Costner for his 20th place finish winning over 3.6k. That's a wrap on this event but as always a first class production by Henry Garrison, Derek Dill, and Paul Dutsch (hey look at that the ever gracious Tim Burt included them all in his winners shot above). Also, a shout out to all the other staff at the Beau that ran everything so seamlessly all week. Looking forward to the Heater in January! |
BEAU RESULTS: DAVIS WINS IT: The Event 8, 50k Guaranteed Monster Stack finished with a familiar face in the top three. Jerry Giroir fresh off his win in the 300k Guarantee rentry finished 2nd. Starr Valdez finished 3rd. The final table also included (4th through 9th): Pablo Garcia (Baton Rouge), Jason DeBenedetto (Baton Rouge), Saleem Delawall (Tucker, GA), Hanh Nguyen (D'Iberville, MS), Will Souther (Monkeyville, MS) and Vafa Kamali (Hattiesburg). Jeff Densen followed up his win with another cash and was joined by familiar names Steve Bierman, Chris Canan, Wayne Neyland, Sley Sanchez, Antony Vidmer, Anthony Graphia, Herb Tascott and Stephen Hastings at the cage. CHRIS STEVENS FIRST IN EVENT 9: The Gautier, MS native outlasted Jonny Craig of Texas heads up to win just over $8800. Craig earned 4.6k. With 12 spots paid Clay Henry of Many, LA, and Charlene Smith of Metairie, were the only other two over 2k. Prissy Giroir, Jason Bullock, and Stanley Williams all cashed too. HAYWARD OMAHA CHAMP: Hayward Rigano of Kilgore, TX beat Danny Zaccaro of Mobile heads up to win the title in Event 10 and earn over 5k for first. James Carter of Pensacola, Mark Pharo of Birmingham, William Lest of Cautier, Bret Atiyeh of Oxford, AL and Bernice Ranum of Fort Walton were the other cashers. SERRY-IOUSLY MO SERRY WINS 8 MAX : New York, New York's Mo Serry took place in the 8 Max tournament for a little over 12k. Rober Smith of Lexington, AL second for $6750. Terry Moore of Mobile won 4.2k The final table featured Seville Hale (4th), Frank Alpandinar (5th), Teddy Conner (6th), Chris Dupuy (7th), David Vajnar (8th) and David Nicholson (9th). Also cashing double ring winner and Non-Donkey John Durio, Bob Beck, Donna Reid, Carl Guillot, Andrew Brinkley, Rebecca Campbell, and Wayne Neyland. |
BEAU RESULTS: DENSEN DOES IT: New Orleans' own Jeff Densen prevailed in Event #4 at the Beau Rivage. Well deserved and one we saw coming as Jeff has steadily improved his game the last couple of years. He bested Herman Shumaker of Brandon, MS heads up to win just under 10k. Shumaker took home 5.1K. Phong Phan from Biloxi earned 3.2k for third. Donna Reid of Meridian, MS won 2.2k for 4th. Stan Barre of New Orleans and Frank Alpandinar of Baton Rouge also cashed. EYER EDGES SAGER: The Heads-up tournament climaxed with heads up match between two relative young guns. A fittingly finale to an event that proved to be a resounding success. Three out of four the first round matchups we highlighted were some of the last to finish. Rounds two and three had compelling matchups of their own. When the sweet sixteen had finished it left eight skilled players to battle it out. Stephen House of Milton, FL, Keith Ray of Hurley, MS, Seville Hale of Pensacola and Easton Oreman of Metairie all won $607 but fell short of the final four. Bric Allen and Chris Dupruy of Baton Rouge both earned $1820 for making the semis. Eyer (right side of photo) prevailed winning bragging rights over New Orleans' Jeff Sager and the other 63 players in the bracket. They each won over 4k. SENIORS DRAWS 267 PLAYERS: Shannon Corey of Pensacola beat Marc Fisher of Lafayette winning 18k and 10k respectively. Ronny Aden of Pope, MS third for 5.6k. Louisianans filled out 5th through 8th with Dean Rutledge, Dan Prejean, Arthur Derbes, Robbie Matthews and John Welsh all making more than $1800. Ron Franco, Tom Franklin, and George Elias were among the 27 who cashed. SEALED IT: Jacob Seale of Lumberton, TX won 13k for first in Event 7's PLO event. Morton Davis of Pensacola (4k for 4th), William Pappas of Mandeville, and Jason Gladden of Oceans Springs all cashed too. |
MO' FROM THE BEAU: THREEWAY CHOP WITH JERRY ATOP THE REENTRY! Big congrats to Jerry Giroir, Tim Burt and Dustin Paulen of Fort Worth Texas. Jerry and Tim got the most (both over 50k) with Jerry getting a touch more and the victory photo. Also at the final table Beau Rivage crusher Nesrin Can, Judge Leo Boothe, James Burnham of Alabama and Bruce Little of Metairie. Peter Fieriozzi and BJ McBrayer just missed the final table earning slightly under 6k. Danny Doucet finished 15th. A slew of notables, too many to list today, made the top 100 and made the money in the mammoth 1738 entry field. A prize pool over 500k smashing the 300k guarantee.. HEADS UP MATCHES TODAY: Lots of buzz surrounding this event. (Check out the closueps of the brackets on our FACEBOOK page). Our favorite first round match up may be the clash of Tag Team mates from this years WSOP Steve Bierman and Ray Curran. Is there anybody hotter than these two? We've been meaning to mention Steve Bierman's recent run at the Global Championship (a final table just shy of the televised final six) and a deep run in the Main Event a couple of days later. That 27k in earnings have only added to the record year for Bierman (13 cashes, two WSOP bracelet event final tables and over 150k won). His opponent Ray Curran has also been on a heater this year... his first year playing tournaments. Ray has two first places (one for a circuit ring) and over 200k in winnings. A third member of their tag team from this summer, our own Wild Bill (fresh off two cashes already at the Beau) plays his Vegas house mate Patrick Horrigan in the first round. Feels like this is going to sting for a while for whoever loses. We also be watching "The battle of Baton Rouge" pitting the ever smiling Rebecca Campbell vs. Walter Chambers in one corner of the bracket. Another enticing matchup: Chris Sheffield draws Josh Palmer. Sheffield is a closer with three circuit rings and Palmer has amassed over 400k in earnings and three wins of his own. PLEASE HEAD TO OUR FACEBOOK PAGE AS WE WILL BE UPDATING MORE REGULARLY FROM THE BEAU'S BALLROOM THERE DURING THE WEEK. GIVE US A LIKE TOO, IF YOU HAVEN'T YET. |

BEAU RIVAGE: We enjoyed the opportunity to speak with the man in charge of all thing Beau Rivage poker Henry Garrison recently and he shared some of the happenings at one of our favorite poker rooms on the Gulf Coast. A sports book is operating just outside of the poker room. Their second biggest annual poker tournament is a couple of weeks away. Starting to feel like football season. Poker... Sports Bets... Football... Besides Chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows on a crisp autumn night there may not be a better combo for this time of the year. Henry told us that tournament players looking to maximize that combo will be really happy when they see the layout of the ball room. Should be quite an atomosphere. Here's the complete schedule. Some highlights a 300k guarantee four flight No Limit Hold'em extravaganza that starts Friday September 7th for $360 a bullet. Sunday features Big O, Monday a Heads Up tournament, Tuesday a PLO event, Wednesday the MONSTER, Friday a 8 Max Event, and the two flight Main Event starts noon on Saturday the 15th. All Day 2 Players cash. BEAU'S MONTHLY SCHEDULE: Well, plenty of tournaments to whet your appetite before the big one. Go here to see the daily and monthly events still to play in August. |
