OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR OF LOUISIANA :

*Poker players please feel free to write something similar here:

Hello Governor,

You have a tough job ahead of you and I wish you well on it. I also offer a solution to one of your biggest problems. You are dealing with inherited budget issues and I know the TOPS program has been heavily debated. Why not utilize a (recently) forgotten Louisiana creation from long past to save our children's futures. As a parent and a professional poker player I think Louisiana is missing a golden opportunity to legitimize a game that is ubiquitous in this state. Yet, for some reason the birthplace of poker doesn't allow its citizens to play it on their computers at home. Even worse right now it represents a revenue stream that our government ignores that could be put toward helping our children.

As you know poker, invented and played on the riverboats of New Orleans, currently is illegal to play online. I co-own Gulf Coast Poker.NET and I can tell you first hand how many casual and devoted players would flock to the game if given the chance and the state's seal of approval to play safely at home. Please legalize online poker, regulate it, tax it and use that money for something useful like saving TOPs. We'd be happy to meet with you and discuss these matter. In the same vein, please consider using Daily Fantasy Sports, another game of skill, as an area to consider for potential new taxes.

I hope you entertain this idea seriously.

Best regards.
MONKEYS MINIONS :

It's that time of year.  Once again the Poker Monkey is offering three (?), four (?), five or six (?) players the chance to participate in the WSOP Main Event.  He's already announced one player and mentioned a couple of other candidates.  (Good luck GeneD!).

If you'd like to submit your name for consideration, vouch for someone else or want to invest in shares of the players go to his blog (over there on the right) and find out how.  Last year one player made it all the way to 222.

Two of the other Minions from last year recently took down big scores.  Michael Bratovich won his second circuit ring and Seville Hale took third in an event last week. Monk has an eye for talent that's for sure.
LINKS AND CRAZINESS:

MIKE DENTALE AND LILLY KILETTO ACCUSED OF COLLUSION/CHEATING:

You see a lot of weird things in megas, especially as the buble nears.  However, you rarely see a player all in and an opponent try to muck pre flop.  That's just what happened when it folded to Kiletto in the small blind during a 25k Super High Roller Mega at the Seminole Hard Rock.  She put in the reaminder of her chips, which totaled less than the big blind. Mike Dentale, the big blind, declared fold twice and threw his cards to the muck.  Chaos predictably ensued.  A 2+2 thread started by a player at the table describes the action here.  It gets good when Dentale joins the fray to defend himself and WPT star Mukul also chimes in.

BLOGGY BLOGGY BLOGS:

Jason Anderson is always an interesting read.  After a year off from blogging he popped back in to fill everybody in on what's been going on.  It's a brave and raw post.  If you didn't root for him before you probably will now.  Go here to read more.

Not really a blog per se but over on our facebook page we have a link to all the summer's tournaments in Las Vegas during the WSOP.  Give us a like while you are there.
PEARL RIVER RESULTS:

"CD" CHRIS HARRIS DOES THE DOUBLE:

Harris didn't chop this time instead the Alabama attorney took down first in the Pearl River Spring Poker Classic Main Event.  Harris ran pure on his way to the crown.  If they had a casino champ he would have won that too.  Jeter Brock had almost as good a week cashing in the two biggest payout events.  Congrats to all that cashed including the many friends of GCP that made the trip.  For complete results of all the events head here, and while you are on our facebook page please like us.  It makes us feel better about ourselves.
PEARL RIVER SPRING POKER CLASSIC UPDATE:

CHRIS DAVIS WINS EVENT 1:

Davis sat on a mountain of chips as Captain Ron Hope navigated the choppy waters. When the good captain had finished the discussion eight players divvied up the bountry with Davis getting credit for first place and getting a lion's share of the money. Hope, Brock Jeter, and Corey Harrison all got significant pieces themselves. Congrats to all the pirates  players that cashed and chopped.

MAIN EVENT:

Psst... Overlay Alert... Overlay Alert... The Main Event has started with the first of four flights beginning at noon today. Tonight will be flight B at 6 and tomorrow flights C and D. The first flight had a little under thirty players. If the next three flights  have the same attendence there will be a HUGE overlay. They need 200 players to make their 150k guarantee. If you got plans on Saturday you might want to change them. Just a heads up. Buy-in is only $810. See you tomorrow poker players.  Click here for more details.
LITTLE BEST WPT PLAYER EVER?

GCP blogger and Pensacola's favorite son won the WPT brackets for best WPT player ever.  Not since the minions were decided by clicks have so many people voted for a poker award.  Little bested Phil Ivy in heads up voting after dispatching Barry Greenstein in the semi-finals.  Speaking of Minions you might want to check out Bella Donkey's blog.  Look left and scroll down.
LINK DUMP:

HARRISON GIMBEL WINS AGAIN:

Gimbel won the WPT Rolling Thunder event and 275K.  The 25 year old adds his name to the fancy WPT trophy and prevented Moshin Charania from joining an elite list of three time WPT winners.  Another big win for the Alabma native who burst on the poker scene as a 19 year old winning the PCAS.  Pocket Fives.

MONKEYS MINIONS AND VEGAS HEIST:

The Poker Monkey gives details about how to be a Minion and how to invest in the Minions ahead of this years WSOP.   Also, Nola Dalla has a heist story.  Check out the blogs.

BOT BEATS GO CHAMPION:

What's this got to do with poker?  A lot.  Go is an ancient game that is so complicated Nature magazine foolishly said this it would be years before a computer would compete with a human.  Months later a bot beat the best player in the world 4 games to 1.  Using a new type of AI the bot develops strategies by playing it self milions and millions of times to improve.

Like Go, the complexites of poker have long been touted as a reason a bot won't beat a human anytime soon.  We say the writing is on the wall.  Here's a pokernews article about the latest innovations in poker bots PokerNews.
SPRING POKER CLASSIC:

Great news out of Pearl River, for those yearning for a Spring Poker tournament especially in light of the cancellation of the big one on the coast.  April 1st to April 10th two big guarantees book end a week's worth of poker play.  The main event has a 150k guarantee AND gives you free round of golf at Dancing Rabbit.  Cheap room rates (866) 447.3275.  Complete tournament information here.

Friday April 1st, the first of four $340 flights begins at noon (100k guarantee) with the second at 6.  On Saturday two more flights.  Sunday the merge and two more tournaments at 2 and 7.  All week there are two tournaments per day, one super satellite to the main, and starting Wednesday April 6th, a mega at 8 in additon to it.

We'll be there, having enjoyed their last Ante Up tournament.  We can testify three things, they ran a first class event, the rooms were nice and new, and the quality of play lends itself to um... profitablity.  In short you don't want to miss this one.
LOCALS DEEP IN WSOPC VEGAS:

Congrats are in order for Jeff Sager, Steve Bierman and Paul Hebert. The threesome all went deep in the WSOP-C event at Bally's in Las Vegas. The Main Event had a 1 Million guarantee, with first place over 323k and the massive field (1200+ players) that brings with it.

Sager, a New Orleans resident like Bierman, went the deepest cashing for almost 8k when he busted in 31st place. This comes on the heels of a deep run last week at the Venetian where he finished 9th winning over 5k.  That was another giant players.

Paul Hebert of Pierre Point cracked the top 100, finishing 92nd winninig almost $3500. Bierman made the money but busted in 128th for a min cash (his second of the series).

MINKIN MAKING MILLIONS:

Kelly Minkin won best female poker player in the World at the American Poker Awards. Yes, there is such a thing. And no, you can not nominate your best friend for Donkey of the year. Minkin had a tremenduous year including last woman standing in the 2015 WSOP Main Event. This award is even more impressive considering it's been under lock and key as Vanessa Selbst had won it four years running.  Interview here.

BLOGGERS ARE BACK:

On the left we got Nolan Dalla dialing it up with topical looks at politics sports and poker.  The Poker Monkey himself  is back having posted a few times this year.  Also, checking in Davy, David Mendez, Jonathan Little and others.
LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING:

BEAU RIVAGE 50K

As these things tend to do, this event ended up in a chop. Jeff Sager of New Orleans rode a short stack until the deal. Officially Donald Rolfe's big stack gets credit for the win. Clarence Pinkard earned second place and Charles Bailey finished third. Also in the money Mo Moeini (does the Beau run a tournament he doesn't cash in?), Wild Bill Phillips, Patrick Eskandar, John Lowden and Shaun Johnston.

POKER SURVIVOR:

Anna Khait, a poker pro, is the latest contestant on Survivor a game show that requires matching wits and social game with players labeled Beauty (she's grouped in this category), Brains (check) and Brawn.  Short of Daniel Negreanu becoming an American citizen (supposedly the only hold up for his involvement), this may be the last chance for a poker pro to win one of these things.

BRIC ALLEN DOESN'T BRICK:

Quick shout out to Walker, LA's James "Bric" Allen who finished an impressive 18th in the monster field at the WPT Deepstacks in Hollywood Florida.  He earned over 10k for his deep run in a feild loaded with pros.
MILLLION DOLLAR HEATER UPDATES:

JAKE DANIELS WINS MAIN

After a three way chop between Tripp Kirk and B.J. McBrayer Jake Daniels earned first place and the trophy. The PGA Sales professional weathered a short stack at the final table
until he caught his rush and chipped up. With over 300k in the prize pool at the time of the chop it's likely all three players earned close to six digits.

What a loaded final table it was with David Chocheles finishing fourth for 40k, Caufman Talley who took a couple of beats to finish 5th for 30k, and Josh Palmer who finisihed sixth for 25k. Scott Weinberg ended in eighth for 15k.

Coming just shy of the final table included Gulf Coasters David Nicholson, Stephen Bierman, Herb Kelso, and Robert Gunter.

EVENT 15

WSOP bracelet winner Corey Harrison was in on the chop with David Busby getting credit for the title. GCP's Wild Bill made the final table for a min cash.

EVENT THIRTEEN:
Jeremy Gaubert (pictured above right) simply is a beast he shows up every now and then to win like one out of two tournaments he registers.  This time it was the 1k turbo.  He earned 11k.  John Dollinger took second (6.5k), and Ryan Van Sanford third for 3.9k.
MILLION DOLLAR HEATER RESULTS:

BIERMAN DELIVERS:

Steve Bierman recently began making a name for himself at the tables.  His vociferousness and fun attitude attracted a lot of  attention.  Now he's busy making money at the tables.  After cashing in a series of WSOPC Main Events he just bagged his biggest score of the year with a 42k payday at the Beau Rivage re-entry event.   Bierman finished third in the event.

His signature hand came with three tables left when as the chipleader he and the player second in chips mixed it up.  Preflop Bierman called from the big blind.  They saw K7x hit the board.  Check, check.  Another 7 hit the turn.  Bierman bet small his opponent raised small.  Steve shrugged and said "Sir, if you got a full house I guess you deserve my chips," and shoved for mountains.  He was snapped called by Kings full.  Bierman showed pocket 7s.

David Lee of Memphis, another live wire at the table won the event for 82k.  Kevin Hazzard had his aces cracked on the final hand to win 50k for second.  Tom Cannon won 33k for fourth and Mo Moeini won 29k for fifth.

Also cashing were Mike Horchoff (11th) 7.5k, Hiep Doan, Stephen Orf, Heather Reese, Ashly Butler, Robert Quin, BJ McBrayer, David Chocheles, Darrell Guillory, Jeter Brock,  Larry Williamson,  Ronnie Hope,  Jason Lipscomb, Kip Jones, John Hart, Brock Gary, Michael Schneider, Joe Hebert, and Kwong IP.

ROCK SOLID GUARANTEES:

Two guarantees in the opening weekend.  One the Beau Rivage would have a 500k prize pool for a $355 tournament--which the smashed.  Two, Darryll "Da Rock" Guillory talked a good game and the People's champion delivered he played one bullet in the reentry event and he cashed.  Congrats for backing up the smack.

FINALLY DA ROCK RETURNS TO POKER:

There are not many people who we would honor a request to talk smack before a tournament.  It's usually win the tournament, make a deep run or cash then you get the coverage.  There's an order to things.  That said, Darrel Guillory who achieved fame post Katrina on ESPN's coverage of an WSOP-C NOLA televised Main Event, has a couple of advantages over most people.

1. He's a former GCP blogger.  That helps. 2.  Darrel deals to us and he's been talking about his triumphant return to poker for a long... long... time.  In fact, every time he pitches the cards he's told us he's deserving of a write up.  He's been taking a sabbatical from the game and he's coming back hoping to make an impact.  That said, don't think he just a card pitcher, as he's had a lot of success playing tournaments.  Most notably he owned a WPT IP Biloxi series with multiple deep runs and at least three final tables back when that event used to pack the place.

He's been telling us he needs to give the general public a courtesy warning that's he gunning for the title in the re-entry and the Main Event.  So, you have been warned.  Best of luck to you too, Darrell "The Rock" Guillory glad to have you back on this side of the felt.

BEAU RIVAGE MILLION DOLLAR HEATER ALMOST HERE!

Starts Friday with a 500k guarantee they'll likely smash again. Three flights for $355. The Main Event also has a 500k guarantee.  There's a little for everybody.  Two 1k buy-in events and multiple $250 buy-ins plus their nightlies and inexpensive satellites.  Should be another great event.

WPT FIVE DIAMOND CHAMPIONSHIP:

KEVIN EYSTER AND THE NUMBERS:

According to Hendon Mob, Kevin Eyster is the number one earning player in Louisiana. He's 125th in the United States all time and 200th worldwide. The Lafayette, LA player moved up the rankings considerably and now has over 4 million in live earnings and another 3.5 million in online winnings. How did he accomplish that? Well, he just had his biggest score of his life winning first for 1.5 million at the WPT 5 Diamond Poker Classic.

With 639 Entries he took home almost a quarter of the over 6 million dollar prize pool. Darryll Fish, who also just had one of his biggest scores taking second in another WPT event cashed 15th. Andy Pilachack (TX) and Harrison Gimbel (AL) also made the final 18. John Dolan cashed in 25th.
POKER LINKS:

PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS:

Morgan Sager spends a good amount of time stacking people in cash games. Turns out she's also a talented artist. She also makes some tasty chocolate covered pretzels--she's a rennaissance woman.  If you are interested in your own poker painting contact us through our facebook page and we'll put you in touch with Morgan. While you are there like us.  Don't be a scrooge with your facebook likes.  Just hit a thumbs up.  Easier than checking the nuts out of position.

BOVADA REWARDS ANONYMOUS PLAYER:

One of the perks of Bovada is you can play online in anonymity. We got this pic of somebody taking down a large score with a straight flush as the wining hand. We know he's a Gulf Coaster and that's all we're saying. Great job anonymous.

HIALEAH PARK SCANDAL AFTERMATH:

Apparently, the poker room in Hialeah Park Casino Miami, FL had a lot of... ahem.. shennigans. Well, after the efforts of local players, a lengthy 2 + 2 thread, and some social media attention brought to the problem, they cleared house. Read all about it here.
RUNGOOD WRAP-UP:

CHRIS TORRES FINISHES THIRD:

Harrahs NOLA reg Chris Torres is used to making the final table in the Harrahs weeklies. He felt right at home when he found himself playing for a slightly higher pay out. This time he had to settle for third but 22k is quite a bit more than the weeklies pay. Great job Chris.  (Picture from Poker Productions if you don't recognize him that beard is long gone).

Ryan Tepen, a RunGood pro, took top prize winning 54k after beating Tim Woodson (2nd 33k) in heads up action. Some more locals rounded out the final table. Chris Savage of Baton Rouge won 15k for fourth, Patrick Eskandar of Biloxi 11k for fifth, Mike Horchoff on New Orleans 7 for seventh and BJ McBrayer 4k for 10th. Also making the final two tables Grant Gibbs, Ben Thomas, Corey Harrisson and David Weinstein.

Some more friends of GCP cashed including Frank Alpandinar,Ms. Joan Rhodes, Joey Wideman, Moton Davis and Steve Bierman. Great showing by everyone.

MARK HOLMES, LYNN MORRIS AND GCPer CHOP WSOP SATELLITE:

Pensacola racetrack reg Lynn Morris, Northshore's Mark Holmes, and one of the guys that owns this site chopped up the moolah in the WSOP Satty.  RunGood pro Bernard Lee finished just outside the chop.  Photos courtesy of Mike Kmetz.

GULF COAST POKER ROUNDUP

-
DARRYLL 'DFISH" FISH CONTINUES GREAT 2015:

Fish continues his winning ways with 2 recent WPT cashes with the latest on for a quarter million dollar score up north in Montréal Canada. Fish finished 2nd behind Jarod Mahoney who got his 1st 6 digit score. Fish posted a humbling facebook post after his 2nd place finish. This was his 3rd 6 digit score this year as he final tabled the National Championship and shipped the Main Event down in Florida to get in the Natty. We wanted to to say Congrats Fish...we remember playing with him when he lived in Casinos on the Gulf Coast pre-black Friday. We also believe this is only the beginning and he has to be on the list of great players without a bracelet...we are confident he will be scratched off that list soon.

-COUSHATTA ALSO HOSTING WINTER POKER CLASSIC

For those of you who are coming to New Orleans play the Run Good event...there is another Poker tourney running from the 9th thru the 13 at Coushatta Casino in Kinder. Its about a 2 1/2 hour drive from New Orleans and the Main Event on the 12th (Saturday)  is a straight $1000 buy-in ($930 + $70). They will cap the event as they only have so many tables though.

-AARON MASSEY OUTS DWYTE PILGRIM FOR BEING A SCAM ARTIST

You can read more about it at www.bigcockpoker.com. Aaron was taken advantage of and proves what a nice guy he is by giving Dwyte every opportunity to "try to make it right". From what we read...offered payment plans...asked for anything to show good faith...etc. Our big question is what was the exact story about the IRS seizing his money and why would Dwyte not provide some sort of proof of this. This is the kind of story that people never fade...oh well.

NOVEMBER, NOVEMBER POKER NEWS:

-
Remember, Remember Milam Owns November:

Over the weekend, Harrahs New Orleans hosted their monthly WSOP Main Event satellite tournament. The winner of that same tournament the last two Novembers is one man Kenny "The Mega Master" Milam. Well, looks like Kenny gets a new nickname now. Call him Mr. November.

Milam won the tournament for a third year in a row. This time he had to settle for a bundle of cash as they finished just shy of the 10k needed for the Main Event seat. Last year, Mr. November parlayed his seat into a near top 200 finish. Pretty sure he'll figure out a way to get back to Vegas and into the Main Event.

Three reg players also finished in the money: Dr. Ivan, Chris T., and Katie Pasano.  Congrats to all of you.

-November 9 Now November 3:

Tonights telecast will show the final three players battle to down to one and crown the 2015 WSOP Champion. Out of an abundance of caution we won't spoil that outcome for you. But really... we are a pseudo poker news site. Do you really think we won't mention it?

Okay, stop reading now...
...

...

...
Chipleader Joe McKeehen will battle Neil Blumenfield and Josh Beckley tonight for the bracelet. Mckeehan has so many chips they had to reinforce the other side of the table to keep it from toppling (*Not true). He's also been playing almost mistake free as he's continued to chip up. It's rare for a player to enter the final tale with the most chips and then leave with all of them.  McKeehen might be a good bet to buck the trend. For part of the telecasts, it's felt like everybody else is only playing for second. That said, stranger things have happened.

-December Days to Remember at Harrahs NOLA:

Right now, Harrahs is giving away a seat with every weekly tournament (Wednesdays and Saturadays at 11AM), to the Run Good Cup. The $675 buy-in will have multiple day ones and a 100k guarantee (believe action starts 12.10 and runs to to 12.13). Many of the regs have already won seats.  Since the most you can win is one, there should be a  big incentive to make the final table and strike a deal.

Also, of note for players in town for the RunGood Cup there is discussion of holding the WSOP Mega on 12/13 to have a huge prize pool. And, the preceding weekend there is 16,750 freeroll for Harrahs players. Contact the poker room for more details.

-SWAT Team Shoot Out:

CHAN PELTON GETS IT RIGHT:  WINS ALL THE CHIPS AND POCKETS THE MONEY:

Once upon a time Chan Pelton had to forfeit a poker title by shopping for a souvenir by taking a large denomination chip off the table.  This time he won 42k after beating Elby Tyson of Wesson, MS (26k) heads up.  Schuyler Thornton's attempt at the rare North Mississippi double finished with his third place elimination (17k).  Judge Leo Boothe won almost 13k for fourth.  Clay Henry of Many, LA won 8k for sixth.  Diamond Dave Chocheles flopped a flush but his opponent turned a boat and he had to settle for 5k and eighth place.  Ronald Bown won 5k for ninth.
